Home Learning Tasks
Hello 5R! You're all working incredibly hard and I'm really proud of the work you're doing during your time at home. Please make sure you're reading daily and completing the AR quizzes, as well as practising your spellings on Spelling Shed.
Below are the tasks I have set for you this week (I will update them every weekend ready for the week ahead). You can choose how and when you work through the tasks but I've given you a timetable if you would like to follow it. Please note that you do not have to complete all of the work that I set you each week.
Please email your work to once you've completed your tasks or if you've got any exciting news to tell me! If you need any help or have any questions about your work, please don't hesitate to email me and ask . I am still going into school but I will try and respond as quickly as possible for you.

Mental Maths Starters:
This week, you have maths tasks based on Minions!
Monday - Minion Maths – Money x 10. Let’s get our maths brain working. This is an easy task – multiply money by 10. Remember – the decimal point sticks like glue: it never moves. Use place value headings to help you.
Tuesday – Minion Maths Challenge. Today is mixed maths. It is a large challenge, so you will be doing this over today and tomorrow. Some are easy questions – some not so easy. Just have a go at as many as you can and challenge yourself!
Wednesday – Minion Maths Challenge. Carry on with your Maths Challenge from yesterday.
Thursday - Arithmetic test. It’s time to practise your arithmetic. Make sure you time yourselves. You should aim to complete it in no more than 40 minutes. Then retry any you get wrong.
Friday – Minions Alphabet Game and Two-Player Dice Game (Place Value). There are two games for you to play today. One is a simple alphabet game that involves mental maths and the other is a place value game but you do need two players for that one. So, do one or you can do both – I will leave it up to you.
Today and tomorrow, I would like you to write a letter to your next teacher (even if it’s me).
I would like you to include information about you. What is your favourite subject at school? Do you have a subject you’d like more help on next year? Do you have any talents? Do you brothers and sisters at the school? What do you like to do out of school? Did you learn any new skills in Lockdown or did anything exciting happen? Do you have any pets? Just tell your teacher anything at all…..
Have fun with it but try to remember the skills you have and proof read your work. I would like you to show off how amazing you are at writing! Please email your letters through once they're done.
Task 1 – Animation Comprehension! Today’s is based on a short Minion animation – it’s so funny. Watch the video and then answer the questions.
Task 2 – Rainforest Quick Reads! Because the theme for both Y5/6 classes next year is based on the rainforest, I thought it would be nice to have a go at some quick read rainforest comprehensions. They’re only small so I would like you to pick at least 2 to complete. Read them carefully but quickly and then answer the questions - you should aim to read each text out loud in less than 60 seconds.

English - SPaG:
I would like you to visit: https://www.theteachertrain.com/mc-grammar where you will find lots of cool SPaG raps. I would like you to listen to a few and then make a rap for a word class of your own. You can choose verbs, nouns, adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, pronouns, prepositions etc the list goes on….Then, either send me a video message of you performing it OR just send me it written/types up.
If you would rather, you could make a poster about the word class that you’ve chosen (but make it creative and informative).

Topic - Art
I would like you to create some stunning rainforest art work for our new display boards in September. If you’re going in to Miss Houldridge’s class, I will pass on your work on to her so she can display it in her classroom.
Please take your time. You have two weeks to do this task so don’t rush. You will need to send us a really clear photograph of your work and it must be straight so that we can print it off and mount it before September. I’m excited to see what you create! Here's some inspiration...
Topic - Spanish
I would like you to practice your numbers today 1-100. First, write down the numbers 1-100 and then next to each one, write the number down in Spanish. How many can you remember? Then, watch the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EuOFLYkt5Y (it’s the one you all like) and fill in the numbers you missed out.

2 - Challenge Mat. Pick and choose some activities from the Challenge Mat below.
3 - Visit the PE page on the school’s website and choose some activities to complete. Miss Houldridge has uploaded lots of exciting activities to have a go at.
Topic - Science
Minion Safety Task. When we do certain tasks in Science, we have to make sure we keep ourselves safe. I would like you to read the Minion Safety task and see if you can spot any things that are unsafe. You might want to make a list of the things that are unsafe OR draw a picture of what the minions are doing and circle things that are unsafe!
You can choose another task from the STEM activity sheet below if you'd rather do one of those instead.
Topic - PSHCE
Language Barriers. Watch this clip about Minion language: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bm_HMwJn3OQ Minions have their own language that no-one understands. Sometimes, children arrive in his country from other countries that are at war. They will go to school but they may not speak English. To them, children in England may be as hard to understand as Minions are to us. Please look at the PowerPoint presentation about refugees so that you can understand this a bit more. It is important that we understand that this happens and we need to be kind to those people. I would like you to produce a short piece of writing about the difficulties refugees face when they move to a new country and what support they are given.
TOPIC - GEOGRAPHY - MISS MORRIS - 29 6 20

Hi there - if it is your birthday whilst we are not at school then we haven't forgotten you! I have attached a link to Happy Birthday! So, get the family up - sing Happy Birthday and dance to your heart's content - the whole school won't be watching this time! I have also attached the links to other songs that we sometimes sing on a Tuesday morning - have a good sing song - singing makes you feel positive and fills you with energy. Have fun singing - remember the actions to some - and behave for people at home! Miss Morris
Miss Fowler is our teaching assistant and works in our class every morning, providing children with intervention support when necessary.
Miss Morris teaches the class every Thursday morning.
PE is on Wednesday afternoon. Please make sure your child brings both their indoor and outdoor kits every week.
Homework is set on Friday and must be returned the following Wednesday.
