Pupils

  • Most children say they think they are good or excellent at reading.
  • Most children say they read every day or a few times a week.
  • Most children say they like to read on their own, with a friend or with an adult at home.
  • Most children say they do not read many letters, poems and non-fiction texts.
  • Most children say they read because they find it fun.
  • About 50% of children say they like to read or tablets or computers.

 

Parents

  • Most parents say their children enjoy reading.
  • Most parents say their children read every day or a few times a week.
  • Most parents say their children discuss reading materials every day or a few days a week.
  • Most parents say their children do not read letters and poems.
  • Most parents of key stage 1 children say they do not read non-fiction books.
  • Most parents say their children make good or excellent progress in reading.
  • About 50% of parents say their children like to read on tablets or computers.

 

Answers are based on reading surveys completed in September 2013 by children and parents of children at Messingham Primary School.
